Thirteen Area Nonprofits Receive Bright Ideas Grants

Thirteen area nonprofits recently received grants through the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation’s Bright Ideas Community Enrichment Fund. The summer grant cycle awarded $152,955 to the following Wapello County nonprofit organizations:

Best Buddies International Inc. to support the Best Buddies chapters at Ottumwa High School and Evans Middle School.

Ecumenical Lord’s Cupboard for the purchase of basic hygiene items.

Eddyville Community Foundation to assist with the renovation and ADA compliancy of Pleasant Valley Manor.

Friends of the Blakesburg Public Library to purchase updated public computers, software and instructional equipment.

Gothic Area Tourism of Eldon Corp for the repair and replacement of mortar on the Lockkeeper’s House.

Iowa Radio Reading Information Service for the Blind & Partially Handicapped Inc to provide IRIS newspaper and print information services to the blind and partially handicapped individuals in Wapello County.

Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America for yard maintenance equipment, kitchen appliances and a storage shed at Strother’s Lodge and Foster Acres.

Ottumwa Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to assist with the development of a new website.

Ottumwa Community School Foundation to assist with the purchase of archery equipment to support a new elementary archery club.

Ottumwa Habitat for Humanity received partial funding for 2 part time positions that will focus on recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers for the Habitat for Humanity projects.

Wapello County 4-H Exposition Inc. to help with the purchase of land to provide a permanent home for the Wapello County 4-H Expo.

Wapello County Trails Council to complete the first phase of the trail head at Gray Eagle Wildlife Preserve.

Young Men’s Christian Association of Ottumwa to purchase basic service equipment for their Summer Food Service program.

Bright Idea Community Enrichment Fund has three competitive grant cycles each year; the next grant cycle opens September 15, 2016. Eligible organizations must have an IRS 501(c)3 designation. Applications must be submitted through the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation website at orlf.org. Please direct any questions to anossaman@orlf.org.
