Our Commitment to Equity & Inclusion

For 10 years, the Legacy Foundation has been committed to the well-being of the Ottumwa Community and Wapello County.

Multi-Colored Underline

Our mission is to serve as a perpetual partner, investing in the vitality and advancement of the greater Ottumwa community., regardless of racial identity, cultural identity and language, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, physical ability or religious beliefs. We will work closely with other organizations to create an inclusive community that empowers and enables everyone to connect, belong and grow together.

Diversity: We intentionally seek different perspectives and value an organizational culture where everyone can be their full, authentic selves.  For us, Diversity is the representation of all our varied identities and differences, collectively and as individuals.  We seek to proactively engage, understand, and draw upon a variety of perspectives in our work.  We believe that these difference in perspectives will help drive smarter decisions.

Equity: For us, Equity means to ensure fair treatment, equality of opportunity, and fairness in access to information and resources for all.  We believe this is only possible in an environment built on respect and dignity.  We acknowledge where people and organizations are on their own Equity journey.  We are transparent about our own journey, sharing both our successes and our struggles.

Inclusion: We intentionally create environments in which all individuals and groups are welcomed, respected, supported, valued, and encouraged to participate fully. We believe that no one person can or should be called upon to represent an entire community.  We believe every person’s voice adds value, and we strive to create balance in the face of power differences.
