The Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation is proud to announce the names of their newest Bright Ideas Community Enrichment Fund partners as fourteen grants were recently awarded to local non-profit organizations totaling $150,000. The following lists the organizations and their funded project amounts:
American Home Finding – Computer system to improve juvenile intake system at Emergency Youth Shelter: $3,900
Best Buddies – Financial support for Best Buddies program at Ottumwa High School. Program that enhances educational, recreational and social opportunities for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities: $5,000
Cardinal Community Schools – Grant to purchase books for Educational Lending Library: $5,000
Children & Families of Iowa – Support of various programs to help prevent domestic violence, child abuse/neglect and adolescent substance abuse: $18,000
First Resources Corporation – Funding to extend stay for women (and their children) receiving long-term substance abuse treatment at Hope House: $18,000
Gothic Area Tourism of Eldon – Purchase and installation of new warning siren for City of Eldon: $9,479
Greater Ottumwa Vocal Arts Project – Grant provided to support performing arts opportunities in Wapello County: $2,300
Iowa Special Olympics – Support for the Ottumwa Bulldogs Special Olympics Team: $4,500
Ottumwa Athletic Club – Financial assistance for resurfacing of various Ottumwa tennis courts: $5,000
Ottumwa Habitat for Humanity – Funding to support initiatives that provide affordable housing for Ottumwa housing: $30,000
Ottumwa National Little League – Support for maintenance vehicle for Ottumwa athletic fields: $7,821
Southeast Iowa Symphony Association – Financial assistance for Kidsymphony Concert: $1,000
Wapello County Sheriff – Funding for in-car computer systems to improve safety and efficiency of law enforcement in Wapello County: $30,000
Young Men’s Christian Association – Grant to upgrade and replace lighting in YMCA facility: $10,000
“We received $350,000 in funding requests for this cycle alone so these decisions are never easy but once again our community grant committee has done a fantastic job making some very tough decisions,” stated Kelly Genners, director of community leadership and grant-making. “We are proud of the partnerships we have formed with these organizations and their ability to have impact on very diverse groups of people.”
Little time will pass before more grant monies are available as the next grant cycle will open on June 1, 2014. Applicants may apply online from June 1 – June 30th. Eligible applicants must be a 501(c)3 organization. To date, the Bright Ideas Community Enrichment Fund has provided 102 grants totaling $1,195,825 to area not-for-profit organizations.
