The Wapello County Sheriff’s Reserves Communications Interoperability Project has been awarded a $15,782 grant for the purchase of new Kenwood P25 portable radios. The radios, made possible by an Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation grant, will replace those currently equipped by the Reserves, which will be obsolete and noncompatible with the system used by the new radio tower project. The radios will be a great asset to the Reserve Organization, providing the best communication and increased interoperability with other departments. When the Reserves aren’t donating to several Little League baseball teams, hosting their scholarship golf fundraiser or taking children shopping with our Shop With A Cop program, they can be found working at the Wapello County Fair, Race For the Cure and providing security at other events in Wapello County. They also assist the deputies regularly by helping serve civil papers, act on a call-out basis and provide extra officers in the county for patrol and calls for service.
