Ottumwa Leadership Class Spends Day with State Leaders

The current Ottumwa Leadership Academy class took a day to meet, listen, and learn from some of our State Government leaders on April 18, 2013.

Those leaders gracious enough to give of their time included: State Representative Mary Gaskill (pictured above), Senator Mark Chelgren and his Legislative Assistant, Blake Smith, Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, Iowa Dept. of Public Health Director Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Deputy State Treasurer Stefanie Devin, Secretary of State Matt Schultz, Multi-Account Lobbyist Karla Fultz McHenry, and Single-Account Lobbyist Bob Skow.  Later, the OLA group took a tour of the capitol building itself.

Getting to meet with these legislators within their professional working environment was a once in a lifetime experience as expressed by one of the participants who said, “The most valuable part of the day was meeting with the people that serve our area in the place where they serve us.”
