An exciting housing development has just been announced for the city of Ottumwa. The St. Joseph Hospital site is now under contract by Blackbird Investments. Plans for the historic building and surrounding property – to be renamed the Vogel Building – will include a new a living complex, complete with apartments and townhomes and amenities such as a pool, rooftop terrace, theater, fitness center and clubhouse. The housing units will range in size from 600 to 1,600 square feet. Preleasing for the units will begin prior to the completion of the project with units ranging from $600 to $1,200 per month.
The architect for the project is Walker Coen Lorentzen Architects and the general contractor is Ball Construction who plans to use local subcontractors when possible. The first steps of the project include the abatement of any hazardous material within the building with construction slated for the summer of 2014.
This is indeed thrilling news for our community, not only is a beautiful, majestic building set to be revitalized, but much needed housing will soon be available for new and existing residents.
