Congratulations to our friends at the Market on Main who held their official groundbreaking event on August 12th!
The Market on Main project has been made possible through monumental partnerships including the City of Ottumwa, Ottumwa Property and Redevelopment Company, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, Indian Hills Community College, Main Street Ottumwa, John Deere, The United States Department of Agriculture, ISU Extension, Pathfinders RC&D, farmers/producers throughout the region, local and regional businesses, and private individuals.
With a mission to provide a diverse range of high quality goods which connect local producers and farmers to the regional community, promote a healthier society through education, and to stimulate small business development, Market On Main will operate on a year-round basis, providing a consistent outlet for local producers, and eliminating the food desert status of the downtown Ottumwa area. The 12,000 sq. ft. facility at the corner of Main and Jefferson in Downtown Ottumwa is being rehabilitated to house Market On Main and will be LEED certified, supporting not only energy efficiency, but sustainability. Downtown Ottumwa, and South East Iowa, including Wapello, Davis, Monroe, Mahaska, Keokuk, and Jefferson counties are all projected to be positively influenced by the development of Market On Main.
The Market on Main project was one of the first major grants awarded by our Foundation and we are excited to see construction underway. To read more about this great project go to www.marketonmainottumwa.com.
