The Legacy Foundation has awarded $10,000 in grants to six local nonprofit projects supporting youth development through the Legacy Youth Alliance. At the Legacy Foundation, we are excited to watch our nonprofits continue to grow and help improve many aspects of the community.
Legacy Youth Alliance members live in Wapello County and attend Cardinal, EBF, Pekin, and Ottumwa High Schools. All grant proposals submitted to the Legacy Youth Alliance must be for a youth-led project or a youth-serving program. Funding priorities of the Legacy Youth Alliance are impactful projects that address food insecurity, literacy, reading proficiency, post-secondary education, and physical, mental, or social wellness.
This year’s funded projects include:
- American Home Finding Association for improvements to Corinthians House
- Cardinal Community School District to support before and after school programs and materials
- EBF Community School District for teen mental health training for 9th and 10th grade students.
- Four Oaks to support Operation Santa foster care initiatives
- River Hills Community Health Center to expand trauma-focused services in school
- Iowa Heartland History Connect for hands-on history summer camps.
At the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation, we recognize the critical role we play in advancing positive change. We do this by initiating and supporting promising ideas, convening collaboration, and celebrating success across Wapello County.
We are always looking to support new and innovative ideas and efforts that can have measurable impacts on the residents and communities in Wapello County. Local nonprofits are encouraged to apply for future funding opportunities. The next Legacy Youth Alliance application cycle opens January 1st, 2026; the next online Bright Ideas application cycle opens on February 1st, 2026.
