career

Do you have a son or daughter who is considering a health career?  Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way they could get hands-on experience and first-hand knowledge about what a career in health care would be like?  Now they can!  Thanks to a partnership between the Indian Hills Community College Rural Health Education Partnership and the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation a Health Careers Exploration Academy has just been announced.   Participants of the Academy will spend a full week (July 28 – August 1) staying on the IHCC campus in the dormitories and then will return for three additional days during the school year (TBD).  Activities will consist of an overview of various health professions including hands-on experiences with medical procedures and equipment, healthcare professional guest speakers, job shadow experience, exploration of financial options such as scholarships, grants, loans, etc. and field trips to area Universities and medical schools. The focus of this program is to meet the following objectives:

This program will be offered at no cost to participants.  Students successfully completing all program requirements will earn 3 semester hours of college credit and will be eligible for a health career scholarship to assist them with their college tuition costs.   The program is open to high school students finishing their sophomore or junior year.  Enrollment is limited and the program application is due by June 15, 2014.  Interested parities should email lori.reeves@indianhillsedu or call 641-683-5337 for more information.   Don’t let this fantastic opportunity slip by!
