Nine area nonprofit organizations recently received grants through the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation’s Bright Ideas Community Enrichment Fund. Since the first grant cycle in 2010, the Bright Ideas Community Enrichment Fund has awarded $3,083,028 to nonprofit organizations in Wapello County. The recent summer cycle awarded the following nonprofit organizations that are located in or provide services in Wapello County:
Cardinal Community School District to assist with the purchase and installation of the BluePoint Rapid Emergency Response System. The system instantly alerts first responders and building occupants of an emergency and triggers emergency management protocols.
Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa for the purchase GoldieBlox Mechanical Engineering kits which encourage STEM activities appropriate for all levels of Girl Scouts in Wapello County.
Gothic Area Tourism of Eldon to assist with major renovations to the public access boat ramp #75 in Eldon. The renovations to include regrading and widening the current boat ramp, the installation of concrete stairway access to the boat dock and canoe/kayak ramp. The Eldon boat ramp #75 is part of the Lower Des Moines Water Trails.
Iowa Public Radio to purchase and install a new audio processor at KNSZ or KICW, the IPR stations that serve Wapello County.
Ottumwa Area Arts Council for the purchase and installation of outdoor projection equipment for the video arts project in Canteen Alley.
Ottumwa Athletic Club Inc. to assist with the bleacher upgrade at Legion Field. The current bleachers do not meet state safety regulations.
Ottumwa Community School Foundation to assist with the purchase and installation of a new playground at Wilson Elementary School. The new playground will meet DHS code requirements and be safe for the students and neighborhood children.
Ottumwa High School Music Boosters to assist with the purchase and updating of the audiovisual and lighting equipment in the Ottumwa High School Auditorium.
Young Men’s Christian Association of Ottumwa to assist with the replacement, repair and/or reconditioning of sections of the HVAC system.
