Back in 2006, Eric Miller was a small-town student with a big dream to become a doctor and serve a community like the one that raised him. With support from the Laboratory Control Ltd. Health Career Scholarship through the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation, he was able to chase that dream step by step. He studied at Central College, went on to graduate from Des Moines University, and then returned to Southeast Iowa to begin his career in family medicine.
Since 2015, Dr. Miller has been serving patients at Mahaska Health in Oskaloosa. He loves practicing in a rural hospital because it lets him provide full-spectrum care. He sees patients through every stage of life and builds relationships beyond the clinic. He values the pace of rural life and the deep sense of connection that comes with it.
Today, Dr. Miller also serves as the Accountable Care Medical Director. He helps improve healthcare across the region by focusing on quality, patient experience, and smart use of resources. His advice to future doctors? Get real-world experience early. It will help you understand what the work truly involves and whether it is the right path for you.
